Sohar University Celebrates World Arabic Language Day, under the theme “Arabic Language and Artificial Intelligence: Fostering Innovation While Preserving Cultural Heritage”. The celebration reflected the university’s deep commitment to the Arabic language and its role in intellectual development and cultural identity.
The event featured a diverse program that began with a Holy Quran, followed by a speech by Dr. Tahani Al-Khalaf, emphasizing the role of Arabic in enriching student activities. Dr. Mohammed Al-Hassan, highlighted the importance of linking Arabic to the technological revolution, particularly in generative AI. Dr. Abdullah Abu Al-Kishk also delivered an intervention titled “The AI Revolution in Service of the Arabic Language”.
A panel discussion titled “Arabic Language and Artificial Intelligence”, moderated by Dr. Khalid bin Ali Al-Maamari, Coordinator of the First Domain Program, featured insights from Mr. Saeed bin Mohammed Al-Kalbani, from the Ministry of Education, and Dr. Ismail Ramadan, discussing AI’s impact on the future of the Arabic language.
The celebration also included a unique Arabic calligraphy exhibition and a book fair in collaboration with the North Al Batinah Writers and Authors Committee, adding cultural and artistic dimensions to the event.
The artistic and cultural segment enriched the event with a welcoming performance by students from Al-Falaj Private School, followed by a documentary film and a poem delivered by Dr. Talal Al-Zaabi. The program also featured a theatrical performance, a musical segment and a performance of Muwashahat (traditional Arabic songs) by non-native Arabic students.
Through this event, Sohar University reaffirmed its commitment to integrating modernity with heritage, emphasizing the role of the Arabic language as a bridge for creativity and progress in the era of technological advancements.
