Sohar University and the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha have signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on the delivery of a Green University and Green City (Univer-CITY) project as a means of achieving sustainable development goals. The project will be launched by Sohar University in collaboration with the public and the private sector, the industry and the community in large. The University is committed to making its campus greener and reducing its carbon footprint in line with Oman’s 2050 Net Zero commitment.
As part of the intended project, Sohar University will collaborate with the North Al-Batinah Governor’s office to develop several initiatives. The University has also recently shown interest in joining the Suhar Industrial Alliance for 0% carbon emission. The University is committed to being an active member, helping local industry to enhance efficient energy use and accordingly reduce the Carbon footprint.
Sohar University has already started and delivered several projects within the area of Green Univer-City in collaboration with PDO, Sohar Port, Be’ah, Sohar Aluminum and other industries, The University is also scheduled to host the Association of Environmental Law Conference in the Middle East and North African Universities (ASSELLMU) 5th Environmental Law for Sustainable Development Conference, on the 19th and 20th Feb 2024.
Sohar University believes that by collaborating and combining efforts much can be done to support the Oman environment’s moves towards sustainability.
