FCIT Students Wins Arab Camp for Talented Youth Innovators

An outstanding final year project from the Faculty of Computing and Information TechnologySohar University has secured FIRST PLACE at the Arab Camp for Talented and Innovative Youth.

A group of students from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at Sohar University participated in the inaugural edition of the Arab Camp for Talented Youth Innovators, organized by the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science (ALECSO) in collaboration with the Omani National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science, and under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth in Oman.

This camp served as a scientific event where a select group of Arab youth came together to experience creativity and innovation, addressing problematics linked to the Sustainable Development Goals of the third millennium. The main activity within the camp involved workshops dedicated to the production and innovation of tools and methods to find solutions to problems posed at the beginning of the camp.

The camp, held from December 3rd to 5th, 2023, targeted 47 young innovators aged 18 to 24 representing 21 Arab countries. They showcased their innovative and entrepreneurial projects, contributing to sustainable development in areas such as environment, agriculture, food, health, education, knowledge transfer, as well as green and purple economies.

The research group competed with their final year project titled “Internet of Things System for Monitoring Epileptic Patients,” developed by students Aisha Salem Al-Omari and Lamia Hashel Al-Saadi under the supervision of Dr. Marwan Alshar’e. The project secured the first place in the health category, with the judging committee praising its importance and pioneering use of technology in providing healthcare solutions for the targeted demographics.
