In alignment with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, Sohar University, the Environment Authority, and Vale in Oman have signed a cooperation document to establish a research and study center focused on air quality. The role of the Environment Authority is to exchange expertise and gather scientific data that benefits environmental sustainability, while promoting green practices by effectively integrating sustainability into its investment priorities and decision-making processes.
Vale in Oman is committed to implementing an ambitious plan to reduce carbon emissions across its industrial chain by 15%, which equates to a reduction of 90 million tons of carbon dioxide. In turn, Sohar University has expressed its commitment to becoming a green university and contributing actively to transforming Sohar into a green city. This effort is being undertaken in collaboration with the government, the private industrial sector, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The aim of this agreement is to facilitate cooperation among the three parties in establishing a research and study center for air quality. The center is planned to be located at Sohar University and aims to become a center of expertise at both local and regional levels.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Hamdan Al-Fazari, Vice Chancellor of Sohar University; His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Amri, chairman of Environment authority.; and Mr. Abdullah Al-Saadi, Chief of Administration and Corporate Affairs at Vale.
The signing of this agreement took place during the Global Forum on Intellectual Property titled “Elevating Intellectual Property, Research, and Innovation in Oman,” which was held at Sohar University in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
