Dr Kristine D. de Leon
Biography
Dr Kristine D. de Leon is a highly accomplished academic with a PhD in Applied Linguistics. Currently, she serves as an assistant professor and program coordinator of English Language Education at Sohar University. Her educational background includes a Master’s in Arts in Teaching English and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from De La Salle University-Manila.
Dr de Leon has made significant contributions to the field of Applied Linguistics and English Education through her research publications. She has authored articles in reputable journals, focusing on topics such as World Englishes, specifically Philippine English and the intelligibility of Englishes. Her expertise extends to areas such as Sociolinguistics, Second Language Acquisition, and Language Teaching.
Among her notable publications are “The Intelligibility and Comprehensibility of Philippine English to ESL Students,” “A Study of Filipino Complaints in English and Tagalog,” and “A stylistic analysis of the Use of Modality to Identify the Point of View in a Short story.” Her research findings have been presented at numerous conferences and symposiums in Oman, as well as internationally in countries like Malaysia and the Netherlands.
Dr de Leon also actively contributes to the academic community as a reviewer for esteemed journals such as the Philippine Journal of Linguistics, the Modern Journal of Studies in English Language Teaching, and the Journal of English and Applied Linguistics. She has played a crucial role in supervising and examining postgraduate research theses in the fields of TESOL, English as a Second Language, and Applied Linguistics.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, Dr de Leon has imparted her knowledge and expertise in various English language skills courses, including grammar, Academic and Professional Writing, Sociolinguistics, Language Acquisition, Language Testing and Assessment, and Microteaching for Education students. Her extensive administrative background includes previously serving as the Director of Training and Program Development in the Philippines and as the Program Coordinator of English Language Studies at the Faculty of Language Studies, Sohar University. Presently, she holds the position of Program Coordinator of English Language Education at the Faculty of Education and Arts, Sohar University.
Dr Kristine de Leon’s research and publications reflect her dedication and passion for advancing the field of Applied Linguistics and English Education. Her contributions have greatly influenced the academic community and continue to inspire future researchers and educators in the field.
