Dr Mohsen Khedri
Biography
Dr. Mohsen Khedri is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Faculty of Language Studies at Sohar University, Oman. Prior to joining Sohar University, he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malaya in Malaysia. In 2008, he received his MA in English Language Teaching in Iran, and in 2014, he received his PhD in Applied Linguistics from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Dr. Mohsen’s research covers a wide field centred on the study of language, ranging from applied linguistics to discourse studies, pragmatics, English for academic/specific purposes, and academic writing. Much of his research is at the intersections of genre analysis and corpus-driven discourse analysis. More specifically, he is fascinated by exploring how academic writers belonging to different disciplines from both the soft and hard ends of the academic continuum use language to offer a credible representation of their work and themselves as well as acknowledge and negotiate social relations with their readers in different genres and contexts. This persuaded him to continue his postgraduate studies at the doctorate level in 2011, and since then he has conducted several research studies in this regard in the hope of enhancing the existing knowledge of how research article writers construct their discourse conforming to the rhetorical conventions of their disciplines.
In addition to attracting both external and internal funding for his research topics and presenting a number of papers at international conference worldwide, Dr. Mohsen has published several papers in top-tier international journals, including contributions to the Australian Journal of Linguistics, Discourse Studies, Poznan Studies in Contemporary Linguistics, International Review of Pragmatics, and Southern African Linguistics and Applied Language Studies.
Furthermore, Dr. Mohsen has extensive experience supervising and examining postgraduate research theses in the fields of TESOL, English as a Second Language, and Linguistics. He has also served as a panel member in the proposal presentation, candidature defense, and seminar examination of several master’s and doctoral candidates.
Finally, Dr. Mohsen has held different administrative positions throughout his career, such as coordinating undergraduate and postgraduate programs, which has made him familiar with the dynamics of working in multicultural institutions.
