Biography
Dr. Shamaila Butt is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Business, Sohar University, Oman. Holding a PhD in Finance from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2020), she specializes in economics, finance, sustainability, and energy economics, with a research focus that extends to artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning for developing innovative financial models. Prior to her role at Sohar University, Dr. Shamaila held leadership positions, including Director of Research & Innovation and Postdoctoral Fellow at Guangdong CAS Cogniser in China, as well as Head of Department and Assistant Professor at the University of Sialkot, Pakistan. She has also served as a Research Assistant at the German University of Technology in Oman. With numerous high-impact publications and extensive experience in interdisciplinary collaboration, Dr. Shamaila is dedicated to mentoring students and integrating cutting-edge technologies into economic research to solve real-world challenges.​

​Dr. Shamaila Butt’s teaching interests are centered on core and advanced topics in economics, including macroeconomics, microeconomics, international trade, development economics, and energy economics. She is particularly passionate about exploring the role of economic policies in sustainability, environmental economics, and financial markets. Dr. Shamaila integrates real-world applications, data analysis, and emerging technologies such as AI into her teaching, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Her approach emphasizes case studies, project-based learning, and policy simulations to bridge theory with practice, preparing students to tackle contemporary economic challenges and contribute meaningfully to both academia and industry.

She is passionate about leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning techniques to address complex financial challenges, develop predictive models, and explore the impact of economic policies on environmental outcomes. Dr. Shamaila’s interdisciplinary approach emphasizes the integration of data-driven insights with economic theories to create practical solutions that support sustainable development. Her work aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, fostering innovative research that not only advances scholarly discourse but also contributes meaningfully to policy-making and real-world financial practices.
