Biography
I hold a PhD in Applied Linguistics and bring 17 years of teaching and research experience to my role as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Language Studies, Sohar University. Before this position, I served as an Associate Professor and Director of the Center for English Language and Linguistics at Mehran University, Pakistan. Additionally, I was the Chairperson of the ESL Curriculum for the Directorate of Curriculum, Government of Sindh, Pakistan. In these roles, I specialized in curriculum and material design for ESL, significantly advancing educational resources as chair of the committee overseeing Grade X and XI textbooks in Sindh’s government schools.

I was recently honored with the Humphrey Impact Award 2024, recognizing my leadership and contributions to ESL curriculum development. I also served as the principal investigator for the project “The Society for Gender Equity in Linguistics-Pakistan,” funded by the US Government and administered by IIE and USEFP, with a funding amount of $10,000 USD. In addition to my leadership positions in linguistics, I mentored young students from rural areas as the Deputy Student Advisor at Mehran University, an experience I found incredibly fulfilling.

My academic journey is marked by significant achievements, including earning a Doctorate in Applied Linguistics in TESOL from England and receiving two prestigious leadership fellowships and a certification, all from the United States.

In 2019, I was honored to be awarded the Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship at Penn State University. In addition to leadership in higher education trainings, I gained valuable experience working with the Penn State university’s Press production department, managing journal production tasks. This role enhanced my skills in academic publishing and project management.

In 2023, I was selected as a Fellow in the Visiting International Professional Program’s “Aspiring Leaders: Empowering Pakistani Women Leaders in Higher Education” at Michigan State University’s College of Education, further strengthening my leadership capabilities.

Most recently, I completed two certifications funded by the U.S. State Department: one in “Creating and Implementing Online Courses” from Arizona State University, which equipped me with essential skills for developing effective online learning experiences, and another in Project Management, Monitoring, and Evaluation from Lahore University of Management Sciences, funded by the U.S. Mission to Pakistan in partnership with the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network. These experiences demonstrate my commitment to advancing my expertise and contributing to the field of education.

I initiated the development of Repertus, Mehran University’s first social sciences research journal in over 40 years. As a sociolinguist, I focus on the interplay of language, gender, and society, and I founded the Pakistan Society for Gender in Language, which is an ongoing project. As a linguist, I am deeply interested in curriculum, sociolinguistics, particularly designing language learning materials.
