Driving academia industry collaboration with external stakeholders has been a prioritized strategy for the Faculty of Business. The Business and Commercial Law (BCL) Board of Study (BOS) adjourned on May 8th, 2024, to elevate the alignment of the program with current business trends under the visionary leadership of the SU Vice Chancellor Dr. Hamdan Al-Fazari. This strategic meeting aimed to ensure that the BCL program remains at the forefront of shaping legal business education, equipping students with the essential skills for modern business environments.
The session began with a detailed analysis of the program’s core components, including its curriculum, objectives, and outcomes. A variety of voices, including faculty members, practitioners, esteemed alumni, and selected students, engaged in passionate debates, highlighting the program’s strengths and identifying areas for improvement within its existing framework. Industry experts shared insights on emerging legal challenges, emphasizing the essential skills and knowledge required for aspiring legal professionals. The presence of HR specialist Dr. Hilal Juma Al-Salehi, Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs added real-world insight to discussions, shedding light on industry challenges and creative solutions. Academic experts like Prof. Beverly Baker-Kelly from the Faculty of Business and Law, Modern College of Business and Science, and Dr. Ayyappan Palanissamy from the Faculty of Business & Law at Modern College of Business and Science contributed scholarly rigor and institutional insights, enhancing discussions with diverse perspectives. Alumni and current students are leading with practical wisdom, sharing stories of hands-on learning, and guiding programme improvements to meet market demands. The BCL BoS concluded with a roadmap promising curriculum enhancements, strategic industry partnerships, and innovative teaching methods. The collaborative spirit evident in all discussions demonstrates stakeholders’ commitment to maintaining the programme’s legacy.
