October 3, 2024, the Elevating Intellectual Property, Research, and Innovation in Oman concluded. The event was organized by Sohar University in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), lasting two days.
The second day featured five presentations delivered by intellectual property experts from WIPO, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, Sultan Qaboos University, the SME Development Authority, and the Oman Association for Intellectual Property.
The first presentation focused on WIPO Academy IP Education, Training and Skills-Building Resources for Researchers and Innovators, presented by Mr. Mohamed Abderraouf Bdioui Senior Counsellor from WIPO Academy. The second paper addressed the National Intellectual Property Policy, Strategy, Status, and Targets, presented by Mr. Marwan Al-Shidi from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP). The third presentation discussed Women in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) and the Critical Role of Intellectual Property, delivered by Dr. Maha Al-Riyami from Sultan Qaboos University. The fourth paper was about Supporting SMEs and startups in Oman, presented by HH Al Sayyid Nader Nasr Al Said from SMEs Development Authority. The fifth and final presentation covered the Role of Oman Association for Intellectual Property, presented by Dr. Ghalia Almaqrishya from the Oman Association for Intellectual Property.
The second day concluded with a panel discussion on opportunities. Participants included HH Al Sayyid Nader Nasr Al Said, Mr Marwan Al-Shidi, Dr. Maha Al-Riyami, Dr. Ghalia Almaqrishya. The session was moderated by Professor Bwalya Kelvin Joseph, Head of Research Development at Sohar University.
