Sohar University participated in the Global Chinese Language Conference (Interconnection, Integration, Heritage, and Innovation) held in Beijing. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.
Dr. Ali Al-Manai, Assistant Dean of the faculty of Education and Arts and Supervisor of the Arabic Language Teaching Center at Sohar University, presented a research paper under the theme “Languages and Cultures Connecting the World: Language Learning as a Means of Mutual Understanding.” The conference took place in China, gathering prominent Chinese officials, international education stakeholders, language promotion agencies, experts, scholars, company representatives, and diplomats from around the world.
The paper shed light on Oman’s experience in language learning and its openness to global cultures, emphasizing the Sultanate’s efforts in teaching the Chinese language through the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation. It also explored the role of Omani higher education institutions in teaching Arabic to Chinese students.
Sohar University, established as a pioneer in Arabic language education for non-native speakers since 2012, continues to attract students from across the globe interested in learning Arabic. The university also offers short, specialized Arabic courses, reinforcing its leading role in promoting Arabic language education. This initiative reflects Sohar University’s mission to build bridges of communication by spreading Omani culture, heritage, history, and traditions worldwide.
