Biography

Prof. Wan Hamidon has been the Dean of the Engineering Faculty at Sohar University since September 2023. Previously, he was the Dean of the Engineering Faculty at UKM and Chairman of the Malaysian Council of Engineering Deans during the same period. He also has experience as the CEO of a consultancy firm and the Director of the Engineering Accreditation Department, Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). Prof. Wan is Washington Accord mentor to the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), Bangladesh. He has taught and supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students and has secured numerous research and consultancy grants related to Structural engineering. His primary expertise is Structural Engineering and Engineering Education. He has patented a construction panel system for buildings from his research work. He has received a Gold Medal at the 26th International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products, Geneva, Switzerland 1997; Malaysian National Inventor 1998; WIPO Gold Medal for the Best Overall Invention 1998, Winner, CIDB Construction Innovation and Design Award (CIDB) 2001. He has promoted Outcome-based Education (OBE) by producing OBE/accreditation manuals, training evaluators, and IHL staff in a few countries, including Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Singapore.
