The Faculty of Engineering encourages research and entrepreneurship in the most important areas of the Oman Vision 2040 and UN Sustainable Development Goals. It will also continue to train students to be great employees for companies in the increasingly competitive global and domestic markets. The researchers, including staff and students at the faculty, are committed to thinking beyond the box and doing their part to shape the world and the technologies of tomorrow.
The 5th International Conference on Geotechnics for Sustainable Infrastructure Development – GEOTEC HANOI 2023 was scheduled from the 13th – 16th of December 2023. The purpose of the conference was to bring together a multidisciplinary group of highly recognised scholars and engineers from around the world in order for them to present and share innovative ideas pertaining to Sustainable Geotechnical Engineering.
Dr Mohsin Qureshi from the Faculty of Engineering presented a paper at the GEOTEC HANOI 2023, held at the National Convention Centre, Hanoi, Vietnam. His presentation entitled “Using enzyme induced calcite precipitation (EICP) to improve strength of sandy soils ” was authored by Mohsin Usman Qureshi, Azad Al Shibli, Umayma Al Shibli and Ghassan Al Kindi. He discussed the latest achievements at Sohar University in the biocementation of sand for sustainable additive manufacturing. The experimental study is funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the conference attendance is supported by the Research Development Incentive of Sohar University.

More than 200 Presenters from more than 40 countries and 5 continents gathered in the city of Hanoi, Vietnam, which gives an ideal chance for exchanging ideas and learning about recent advancements in Sustainable infrastructure development.
The conference organised pre-conference site visits to the construction to gain insight into the latest underground construction techniques used for the metro and the post-conference excursion to Ha Long Bay to provide an outstanding networking environment.
Internationalisation is one of Sohar University’s basic goals, and the university strongly encourages participation in international events.
Research at Sohar University is connected with Oman Vision 2040 aims and addresses the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
