Sohar University Celebrates Omani Women's Day

In recognition of the vital role of women in various fields, and in parallel with the Sultanate’s celebration of Omani Women’s Day on October 17 each year, Sohar University organized an Omani women’s day on October 20, 2024 titled “Omani Women in Education” The celebration was held under the patronage of Ms. Asma Al-Futaisi, founder and CEO of Zulfa Trading. The event was attended by Dr. Hamdan Al-Fazari, Vice chancellor of the University, along with members of the Executive Management Committee members and the university female staff.

The ceremony included a speech by Dr. Hamdan Al-Fazari, who congratulated Omani women across the nation and emphasized their contributions to the social and economic development of the country.

Following the speech, students from the Bachelor of Music Education program in collaboration with Qithara Musical Group show a wonderful musical performance. A video where display showing the role of women across various sectors. The video shows a speech for His Majesty the Sultan Haitham, summarize the contributions of Omani women to the nation’s development.

The event also featured a discussion panel titled “Omani Women in Education,” moderated by Dr. Aida Al-Qasimi, from the Faculty of Education and Arts at Sohar University. The discussion included; Ms. Asma Al-Futaisi, founder and CEO of Zulfa Trading, Dr. Hamda Al-Saadi, a Professor in Educational Studies at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Rustaq, and Ms. Hafiza Al-Muhammed, a former teacher.

It’s worth mentioning that, Sohar University takes great pride in Omani women, celebrating their roles as students, academics, engineers, administrators, and leaders. In the academic year 2024/2025, female students represent approximately 80% of the total students, while female staff reach 43%. The number of women holding master’s degrees is 50, and those with doctoral degrees is 44. In this context, the university honored one of its inspiring employees, Ms. Maryam Al-Amri, Director of Human Resources, recognizing her achievements in both academic and professional fields.
