Sohar University inaugurated the twelfth edition of the Sohar University Theater Festival on March 3, 2024, under the patronage of the Honorable Sheikh Hamad bin Hilal Al Maamari, Member of the State Council. The festival take place for 4 days.
The first day began with a speech at Sohar University delivered by Mr. Ahmed Al Owauni, the University’s Cultural Activates Officer, who greeted guests. This was followed by a visual presentation entitled “The History of Theater at Sohar University.” The University recognized Dr. Shabeer Al-Ajmi and Dr. Abdullah Shannoun at the festival’s opening ceremony. In addition to introducing the jury, they include Mohammad Haji, leader of the jury from the United Arab Emirates, and Salah Obaid and Osama Al Shaqsi, jury members from the Sultanate of Oman.
Sohar University Theater Festival features six student plays performed by students from the Sultanate’s higher education institutions, including Sohar University, Al-Buraimi University, University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sohar, Oman College of Management and Technology, Al Sharqia University, and Middle East College.
The festival’s theatrical critique committee is made up of Murshid Al-Saadi, Nasser Al-Hosani, Muhammad Al-Nasser, Maktoum Al-Jalibi, Youssef Al-Farsi, and Mohammad Al-Alawi. It is worth mentioning that the Sohar University Theater Festival’s inauguration coincided with the announcement of the fifth session of the Sohar University Media Presentation Competition.
