Sohar University Hosts Delegation from Professional Colleges in Al Khaburah and Saham
In a line to strengthen cooperation between Sohar University and other educational institutions, the university welcomed a delegation of specialists from the student affairs, career guidance, and alumni services departments of the professional colleges in Al Khaburah and Saham. The visit aimed to explore Sohar University’s experience in the development of programs in career guidance, alumni services, student activities, and student support.
The delegation was received by Dr. Awadh Al-Mamari, PRO VC for Student Affairs, along with a number of officials at the University. A presentation was given to showcase the services provided to students and alumni.
The discussions highlighted the importance of complementary events in refining students’ professional and practical skills. The delegation had the opportunity to engage in discussions with specialists from each department, followed by a tour of the university’s facilities.
Several recommendations emerged from the visit, including the establishment of joint collaboration initiatives between the two institutions, such as organizing joint workshops focused on developing students’ and alumni’s professional skills, including communication skills, resume writing, and interview techniques. These initiatives aim to enhance their readiness for the labor market. Additionally, the recommendation included organizing joint student activities that promote teamwork and leadership skills through competitions and collaborative projects between students from both institutions.
The delegation also suggested cooperating in exchanging practical training programs, enabling students from both institutions to gain hands-on experience in a real-world work environment through site visits and internships at the university or professional colleges. Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of continuing to exchange invitations to annual training and career guidance forums to maximize benefits for students from both Sohar University and the professional colleges. This would allow students to learn about alumni success stories and benefit from their experiences in navigating their career paths, as well as familiarize themselves with the services provided by participating companies and institutions.
In conclusion, the visit marks a significant and positive step toward enhancing academic cooperation between Sohar University and the professional colleges in Al Khaburah and Saham, and other institutions, particularly in the areas of student affairs, career guidance, and alumni services. The mutual interest in developing students’ skills and preparing them for job market demands is a fundamental pillar for the success of educational institutions in achieving their mission.
