Sohar University recently achieved second place in the “We are Oman” award for the academic year 2023/2024, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation. The university received this recognition in two categories: second place at the national level for the “We are Oman” award for the outstanding higher education institution in the implementation of educational programs. Additionally, the university also secured second place in the category for higher education students in volunteer work for the “Isda” project.
This achievement was announced during a ceremony held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Fahar bin Fatik Al Said, and attended by Her Excellency Dr. Rahma Al-Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, along with university VC’s, academics, and students from various educational and professional institutions.
The program aims to promote positive thinking among students, national belonging, good citizenship, pride in the country’s achievements both past and present, and awareness of the components of the state, government objectives, and Oman Vision 2040.
To achieve the program’s goals, Sohar University executed over 60 internal events and participated in external activities that serve youth and align with the objectives of the “We are Oman” educational program. The student volunteer project “Isda,” implemented by the university, aims to recycle resources sustainably.
In this context, Dr. Awad Al-Maamari, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at Sohar University, stated: “The objectives of the educational program align with the strategic goals of Sohar University in contributing to the development of citizens who embody the values of good citizenship. The university has begun preparations for participating in the next edition of the ‘We are Oman’ educational program in a manner that ensures the university’s excellence.”
The “We are Oman” educational program is an annual initiative directed at higher education institutions and their students in the Sultanate, based on the belief in the importance of supporting university student activities to refine experiences, talents, and various capacities, equipping them with the skills necessary for success and advancement on national, professional, and personal levels.
