52 student research in the accompanying exhibition
In implementation of the strategic plan of Sohar University, which falls within its goals of scientific research and innovation, Sohar University organized on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, on its campus the launch event of the project “Towards Sohar University Without Plastic” and the open day for student research and innovation under the title Student Research and Innovations Towards a Sustainable Future, under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Abdullah Al-Battashi, wali of Saham.
Professor Ghassan Al Kindi, the University’s Pro VC for Research and Innovation, began the open day with a welcoming address, which was followed by a speech by Nizar bin Salem Al Araimi, Director of the Environment Department in North Al Batinah Governorate.
Professor Ghassan Al Kindi, the University Pro VC for Research and Innovation, delivered a lecture on research and innovation at the university, as well as an overview of the Sohar University Innovation Incubator. Then, Professor Saif bin Majid Al Zaabi, Assistant Director for Finance and Investment at small and medium- enterprises, spoke about (new financing strategies for projects).
One of the university’s entrepreneurial graduates, Yahya Al-Dhahli, free-diving coach and the owner of the One Breath Center, was given an example of a success story. In addition to highlighting the outstanding achievements of a university graduate, Engineer Maryam Al-Sulaimi, process engineer (polymerization) at Liwa Plastic Industries Complex. A scientific research display was also opened, with 52 student papers from Sohar University’s faculties of engineering, computing and information technology, and business, as well as involvement from the university’s scientific incubator.
It is worth noting that during the event, a project called Towards Sohar University Without Plastics was launched, and Ms. Safiya Al Zadjali, supervisor of the Environmental Council Project in North Al Batinah Governorate at the Environment Authority, spoke about the project, its importance, and the role of Environmental Council members at Sohar University.
